Description

The UCLA Disability Studies Program unit seeks a lecturer for Spring 2021 (AY 2020-21) to teach an upper division undergraduate seminar in the Disability Studies program. Given the interdisciplinary and evolving nature of the field, Disability Studies at UCLA is looking for our instructors to represent multiple perspectives, and we encourage applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds to apply.

The Disability Studies 191 course will be an in-depth study of major themes in disability studies research. Themes vary will by instructor and term. Students pursue independent research related to course theme, with guidance from instructor, then share and critique other student works in progress.

UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university.

Required Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate from an accredited university
• College-level teaching experience
• Knowledge and training within the field of disability studies, or related-field
• Experience in teaching writing and composition

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least three years of college-level teaching experience, including experience mentoring undergraduates conducting independent research projects
• Experience teaching students to implement a range of qualitative social science research methods, including participant observation and interviewing
• Familiarity with current issues around disabilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body
