The Department of Global Development at Cornell University is seeking to hire a Lecturer to teach courses in the department’s undergraduate major in Development Sociology. The Lecturer will develop and/or teach four (4) courses per academic year. We seek a Lecturer who can contribute to courses in the broad area of development and environmental sociology, including courses related to global food systems, international agriculture and rural development, climate change and global development, and/or the sociology of waste in global perspective.

Advising

The Lecturer will provide academic and professional guidance for Development Sociology undergraduates and will be expected to hold weekly office hours, meet with undergraduate advisees on a regular basis, supervise senior honors theses and independent studies and assign grades. Depending on course enrollment, the Lecturer may be assigned a graduate TA. In that case, the Lecturer will also be responsible for supervising and mentoring the TA assigned to his/her courses.

Anticipated Division of Time

This is a full-time 9-month position. The Lecturer will devote approximately 80% of time towards teaching and 20% of time towards advising/mentoring. This is a 2-year position.

Requirements

All applicants should have a PhD in sociology or related field (or expect to have one by the start date), and at least 2 years of documented teaching experience.

Supervision

The Chair of the Department of Global Development or Executive Committee of Global Development will supervise this position.
