Role Description

Department

The Department of Social Policy & Social Work at the University of York wishes to recruit an outstanding candidate to a Lectureship in Social Policy. You will bring academic and/or practice expertise around global social policy and international development that will complement existing strengths in the Department.  Your role will primarily relate to online and campus based postgraduate teaching in the fields of global social policy and international development.

Role

In this role you will develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out individual or collaborative research projects, lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes, design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and/or within a particular programme or subject area, and undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have a PhD in social policy/international development or related area or equivalent experience. You will have an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. You will have specialist subject knowledge in topics relating to global social policy and international development, knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies as well as a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students. You will have advanced and specialist IT knowledge and research expertise in an area that will complement and enhance the department's research strategy and goals. You will have the ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals, extend, transform, and apply knowledge from scholarship, design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area. You will have the ability to supervise the work of others, for example in research teams or projects or as an MSc PhD or postdoctoral supervisor. You will have well-developed analytical skills and highly developed oral and written communication skills, including ability to write and/or contribute to publications and/or to disseminate research findings using other appropriate media and to deliver presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events internally and externally. You will have proven ability to contribute to high quality research which is publicly evidenced, experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and ideally postgraduate level, evidence of successful course planning, design and delivery across a range of modules, with exemplification of teaching materials, and evidence of dissemination of research findings.

The post is full time and is offered on an open contract basis from 1 January 2022, with a salary in range £40,927-£50,296.
