NYU London is currently recruiting for a part-time lecturer to teach Health Policy in a Global World sponsored by NYU's School of Global Public Health. Teaching commences in the Autumn Term (7 Sept. - 18 Dec. 2020). 

Course Description

This course introduces students to challenges for global health in our contemporary era. Students will gain knowledge of the historical development and context of the field of global health and critically analyze key concepts that define health, health care and health systems around the world. The roles of governmental, private and nongovernmental organizations in providing healthcare services will be examined. The sessions will employ an interdisciplinary dialogue to explore key ethical perspectives inherent in global health interventions especially focusing on cultural considerations when working across borders, for example, during humanitarian interventions. Students will consider the formation, implementation and evaluation of health policy in a global health context drawing on case scenarios and how to identify and analyze cross-cultural challenges. Some sessions will be delivered by guest speakers. 

Upon Completion of this Course, students will be able to:

1. Define key challenges in contemporary global health

2. Understand health care systems and give examples

3. Describe how social, cultural, historical, and political factors affect health equalities

4. Explore the role of humanitarian action in global health

5. Develop critical thinking skills in analyzing ethical dilemmas in a global context 


Expectation of Hours 

The semester is 15 weeks (14 weeks of teaching plus an exam week) and there are 2.5 hours of classroom instruction each week.  In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute “office hour” at NYU London per week, during which time she or he will be available to meet with students.

Applicants should have a PhD in the relevant field. It is expected that the post-holder will ideally have 2 to 3 years of experience teaching at the university level; experience teaching American undergraduates is helpful, but not required.
