DescriptionThe College at the University of Chicago is accepting applications for a part-time lecturer to teach the Mellon Summer Research Training Program's summer course, "Engaged Scholarship: Foundations for Critical & Social Theory and Practice." One may apply as a single instructor or propose to teach jointly with another. Responsibilities would include teaching a nine-week course that meets Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:00–4:30 PM, June 16 to August 14, 2026. The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. The per-course salary for academic year 2026–27 will be at least $9,193. This position is not benefits-eligible. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities would include:
QualificationsApplicants must hold Ph.D. candidacy status or a Ph.D. degree in history or a qualitative social science field and demonstrate a well-developed interest in contemporary theories of race, gender, and class. Applicants must also possess at least one year of college-level teaching experience. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how they have engaged in the values inspiring the Mellon Foundation's work. Familiarity with the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and programs like it is a plus.
