Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer in the School of Humanities (Comparative Literature) (Ref.: 516285), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal on the basis of performance and funding availability.

The degree of Master of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies (MALCS) Programme is a postgraduate degree offered by the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Hong Kong.  The courses introduce students to a wide range of theoretical, literary and filmic texts, exploring historical and contemporary issues within modernity and globalization.

The appointee will work with the Programme Director and Coordinator in further developing the Programme’s existing strengths as well as supporting MALCS teaching and administration.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Comparative Literature, or Film Studies, or a related field and are expected to have 5 years of teaching experience. The Department seeks applicants who are experienced in and committed to quality teaching of postgraduate students in literary studies, film studies, and/or cultural studies. They should be well-versed in literary, critical, and/or film theory, have excellent teaching evaluations, ready to share administrative duties, and be interested in integrating teaching with research in literary or film studies in Hong Kong and China-West contexts. Courses are taught with a combination of interactive lectures, discussion of reading, video, and some form of experiential learning. The teaching duties include designing and preparing course syllabi, assigning reading, teaching and advising students, assessing student work and assigning grades, and participating in reviews.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
