The University of Washington (UW) Tacoma invites applications for a temporary part-time lecturer position in Sociology within the Division of Social and Historical Studies (SHS), an academic unit of the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS). This is a part-time, non-renewable position, teaching one class per quarter during the 2021-2022 academic year, beginning on September 15, 2021.  Each quarterly appointment is dependent upon curricular need and available funding.  Part-time lecturers are non-voting members of the UW Tacoma faculty.

The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Sociology to an undergraduate student body and have experience with online and in-person instruction, with the flexibility to offer both. Teaching excellence is expected of all successful candidates.  General responsibilities of part-time lecturers include:

  • Preparing and delivering course content that meets the academic standards befitting the UW Tacoma
  • Ensuring the delivery of all course materialsUsing appropriate and effective teaching strategies and student evaluation methods
    • Fits the catalog description
    • Meets the state learning goals for course
  • Submitting course grades by deadline

Candidates must have a Master’s degree or higher (or foreign equivalent) in Sociology or related field.

Required Work Experience:

Candidate should be an intellectually expansive scholar with demonstrated training and professional experience specializing in race, ethnicity, labor, gender, and/or social justice and social inequality in the United States.
