The University of Washington, School of Social Work invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer. These are non-tenure track, nine-month contract positions effective throughout the academic year. The start date is negotiable and will ideally start at the beginning of any given quarter (Fall-September, Winter-January, Spring-March, Summer-June or July). After an initial appointment, these positions are eligible for multi-year contracts after successful end-of-year review. Part-time lecturers are non-voting members of the UW faculty. This is a minimum 50% FTE position.

We seek talented and innovative practitioner-educators who bring depth in culturally responsive practice and teaching at the BASW or MSW foundation level or in an advanced area of specialized expertise. Applicants must have a demonstrated passion for teaching, mentorship of students, and the skills to engage and enrich our diverse student body. We are looking for skilled and creative colleagues who bring fresh perspectives to the practice and the capacity to support the integration of class and field curricula. Our School’s social justice mission leads us to invest in recruiting colleagues who in their practice and teaching demonstrate significant experience with, understanding of, and cultural humility in working with diverse populations.


Part-time Lecturers at the UW SSW are faculty members with a focus on teaching >=50%, in which case they will teach approximately 3 courses or 9 or more credits per nine-month academic year and participate in student advising. Part-time Lecturers teach in either the BASW Program or in the MSW Program, with courses scheduled either during the Day, Evening, or all day Saturday. Part-time lecturers are expected to participate in collaborative course development and planning, as needed. Experienced Lecturers may be involved supporting the mentorship of new part-time lecturers and doctoral student instructors.

Lecturer Role:

Part-time Lecturers are Instructional Faculty at the University of Washington and are essential and valued colleagues in the School of Social Work’s educational programs. Respected for their up-to-date practice, administration, and/or policy experience as well as their knowledge of fields of practice and populations served, they play pivotal roles and are integrated with tenure-track and field faculty in the teaching-oriented work of the School. Part-time lecturers play a key role in educating our students about social justice and inclusive, equitable social work practice. 


  • MSW from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution or related graduate degree

  • Minimum of two years of full-time post-MSW practice experience

  • A Ph.D. or DSW is optional, but candidates should bring an understanding of theories informing social work practice

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level

  • Demonstrated commitment to and evidence of social justice work within diverse communities

  • Demonstrated commitment to and evidence of integration of research, theory, and practice in their substantive area

Salary and Contract: 
Salary for this nine-month position is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Lecturers hired through this announcement will be eligible for a 2-3-year contract after a positive first-year review.  Subsequent 2-3 year contracts may be renewable upon successful performance. Candidates selected for hire will also be contingent upon the results of a background check.
