Lectureship in Medical Anthropology

Applications are invited for a one-year fixed-term Lectureship in Medical Anthropology at the Department of Social Anthropology, to start on 1st September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates for this post must have a doctorate, and a proven record of fieldwork, scholarship, and publications, in Social Anthropology. They must demonstrate an ability and willingness to teach and research, and to be engaged with current debates, in Medical Anthropology. The postholder will organize and deliver the Department's teaching on the interdisciplinary MPhil in Health, Medicine and Society, other Medical Anthropology teaching within the Department, and will make a contribution to teaching in other fields of anthropology.

Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Good first degree and a doctorate (or clear evidence that completion of such a doctorate is imminent) in Social Anthropology;
  • Evidence of ability to engage in internationally high-level research in social anthropology, including making a contribution to at least one of the Department's four research clusters;
  • Publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career;
  • Ability to deliver teaching in Medical Anthropology for the inter-disciplinary MPhil on Heath, Medicine and Society;
  • Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Faculty as a whole;
  • Ability to work co-operatively within a small group of colleagues.
