Job description

The Geneva School of Social Sciences and its Department of Sociology are opening a position of "Maître-assistant-e" at 100%. The selected candidate will teach at the Bachelor and Master level (courses, seminars, tutorials, etc.) for a maximum of four hours per week, as well as correct and grade student work, supervise and grade exams, and supervise bachelor and master theses.

The selected candidate will have a significant research and publication activity, and demonstrate strong skills and experience in quantitative methods. Extensive knowledge of sociological theories is also required.

Necessary skills and competencies

The candidate must have a PhD in social sciences. Required competencies include:

• the ability to develop and conduct independent research projects (with a publication track record, including
books and peer-reviewed papers);

• a postdoctoral or doctoral research stay of at least one year in a Swiss or other university, other than at the
University of Geneva, or active participation in national or international research networks;

• a command of English for academic writing;

• the capacity to work in teams;

• experience in teaching is a plus.

The position is funded for a total of 3 years, renewable one time, based on funding by the Département de
l'Instruction Publique (DIP).
Trial period duration: 3 months
