Activities

As a PhD student, you examine the effects of (changes in) the organization and the quality of work on the sustainable employability of employees in care for the elderly. You write the research proposal in collaboration with the supervisor. For the implementation of the project you work closely with an elderly care institution in the Nijmegen region. A part of the research will take place there and the data will be collected. You analyze and report in Dutch and in English. You present your findings at national and international congresses and write a thesis. You also provide education (0.1 FTE).

 

Working environment

The Behavioral Science Institute (BSI) is a multidisciplinary institute for research into behavior. Our researchers work together in the fields of psychology, educational sciences and communication science. The BSI has seven research programs with three main themes: 1) development and learning, 2) psychopathology, health and well-being, and 3) social processes and communication. The BSI performs both fundamental research and applied / translational research. The BSI has modern research facilities for observational studies, experiments, eye-tracking studies, EEG measurements and GSR admission, psychobiological research and behavioral measurements in real and 3D virtual environments. Your position is embedded in the Work, Health and Performance research program of the BSI. 


This project is financed by Kalorama, an elderly care institution in the Nijmegen region. The project of the PhD student fits in the line of research of professor by special appointment on behalf of Kalorama, Prof. Cécile Boot. The research is carried out in close cooperation with Kalorama and for that reason you regularly work at Kalorama.

 

We expect

  • a completed Master in Work and Organizational Psychology, Work and Health Psychology, or a related discipline (Health Sciences, Human Movement Sciences);

  • experience with quantitative research methods;

  • affinity with qualitative research methods;

  • affinity with dissemination and valorisation of research results;

  • excellent communication skills;

  • near native command of the Dutch language in word and script;

  • good command of the English language in word and writing;

  • team player who likes to work in an interdisciplinary team.

 

We offer

  • appointment: 1.0 fte;

  • the gross monthly salary amounts to € 2,266 in the first year and rises to € 2,897 in the fourth and fifth year (P scale);

  • the salary does not include 8% vacation allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus;

  • contract duration: you will initially receive a temporary appointment as a PhD student for a term of one and a half years, which is extended to four years after a positive assessment;

  • UFO job profile: PhD student;

  • As part of your appointment as a PhD student, you are expected to spend 10% of your time on teaching.
