Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant postdoc position in Collective Intelligence and Participatory Democracy at the Department of International Economics, Government and Business (EGB).


Core research areas of the Department of International Economics, Government and Business bring together the study of states, markets, and international firms in the context of the challenges faced by emerging and advanced economies. EGB’s research is based on international business, economics, and politics, and is of direct relevance to business, policy-makers and scholars. The postdoc will be associated with the Collective Intelligence Unit, CIU. Read more about CIU here


Teaching responsibilities of the department comprise undergraduate and graduate teaching in the programmes International Business, International Business and Politics, and International Business in Asia. Examples of research areas that the postdoc candidate might cover: 


• Policy-and decision making 


• Human-computer interaction

The post doc is a non-tenured position for one-year period from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020 with 100% research obligation and with a possible extension of the position to December 2022.


To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in research activities of the Department.



The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on research potential.

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation. 



The post doc candidate will be part of an external-funded research project in Collective Intelligence Unit. The four years research project in participatory democracy “Citizen Crowdsourcing: An investigation of opportunities and challenges of using collective intelligence in policy-making” is a collaboration with Zealand Academy of Technologies and Business, and a municipality in Denmark.  


The purpose of the project is to explore the benefits and limitations of the usage of collective intelligence and AI for policy-making, evaluating and comparing with other international participatory democracy platforms, and policy- and decision processes.

1. A five pages project proposal, outlining a research question, a literature review, and a methodology section.

A maximum of 5 publications for review are allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritise their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement. 


3. Copies of the publications marked with an *. Only publications written in English (or another specified principal language, according to research tradition) or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration) 


4. Information indicating experience in research management, industry co-operation and international co-operation. 


5. Documentation of relevant, significant, original research at an international level. 


6. Transcript(s) and a full CV 


Recruitment Procedure

The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.  


The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.


Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
