Postdoctoral Position on the "Normativity of Human Reproduction"
80 %

The University Research Priority Program (URPP) "Human Reproduction Reloaded" of the University of Zurich (UZH) will explore, as of January 1, 2021 and for maximum 8 years, the rapidly changing medical technology on human reproduction. As part of the strategic orientation of the research conducted at the UZH, this program aims at researching and analyzing the societal impacts and legal implications of human reproduction. This interdisciplinary positioned URPP brings together researchers from six faculties as well as from various disciplines from the humanities, social, medical, and natural sciences. A central concern of the URPP is the promotion of young researchers. In this context, a postdoctoral position (80 %, limited duration) on the topic "Normativity of Human Reproduction" is to be filled at the Faculty of Law of the UZH. The position is intended to provide a qualified junior researcher (jurist) with the opportunity to gain qualifications for an academic career through his or her own project.

For more information on the topic and the organization, see a short summary of the URPP available via the following link: URPP.

Your responsibilities

  • You pursue your further scientific qualification with a project that corresponds to the fields and research questions of Sub-project 1 of the URPP ("Normativity of Human Reproduction").
  • You coordinate the research activities of the URPP in Sub-project 1 at the Faculty of Law of the UZH and are involved in the supervision of PhD students.
  • You participate in the URPP's events and actively take advantage of the opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange and interfaculty networking.
  • You are able and willing to apply for a third-party funding as part of a competitive process in order to finance your research independently beyond the period of your employment.

Your profile

  • You hold a PhD in law with an excellent mention and your first academic work already gave you qualifications in a field that is relevant for the implementation of Sub-project 1 of the URPP.
  • You are interested in questions related to the human reproduction from a legal perspective, but – due to your education or your willingness to familiarize yourself with the subject – are also able to integrate the other disciplines of the URPP into your research. This applies in particular to the historical, philosophical, ethical, and gender theoretical aspects of the medicalization of human reproduction. Your willingness to become familiar with the medical aspects of this field is assumed.
  • You ideally already developed a habilitation project, a project outline, or at least an idea for your future research work within the framework of Sub-project 1 at the Faculty of Law of the UZH, which corresponds to one of the URPP's topics.
  • You are able to work in an interdisciplinary and international team; you master both German and English as scientific and working languages; additional language skills are an advantage.

What we offer

  • Focus on the habilitation project and regular feedback from qualified peers and experts from the various fields involved.
