Professional Doctorate in Public Health: fee waiver available in the School of Health and Social Work, University of Hertfordshire

One fee-waived place is available on the new Professional Doctorate in Public Health (DPH) at the University of Hertfordshire, UK ( The DPH, which enrols in January 2020, is a part time 5-year research degree programme designed specifically to develop the research and leadership capacity of public health professionals and practitioners. It is also suitable for individuals, including experts by experience, who wish to enhance their work-related experience and move into public health from a related field. The programme will foster the development of research competent practitioners and policy professionals so they may apply sound research evidence to shape public health. Using a combination of online and on-campus research resources, tuition and supervision, the programme has been designed to develop the research and leadership capacity of even the most senior of public health professionals and practitioners, who are unable to attend the University more than 2-3 times each year. We invite proposals from applicants whose research interests align with the theme of ‘Prevention and Early Detection in Health and Social Care’. This theme is one of seven priority areas of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) for the East of England (EoE). The successful applicant will need to develop and undertake research relating to this theme and which involves communities and/or provider organisations in at least one of the following geographical priority areas of the ARC EoE: Great Yarmouth and Waveney, Peterborough and Fenland, Stevenage, Thurrock.

In general, applicants should hold a 1st or upper 2nd class undergraduate degree and/or a master’s degree in a relevant subject. Preference may be given to applicants/projects where co-funding is available.
