The School of Labor and Employment Relations invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Employment / Industrial Relations at either the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor (with tenure) or Full Professor (with tenure) level. Exceptional candidates at the Full Professor level may also be considered for the named Reuben G. Soderstrom Professorship.

We are generally interested in candidates who have teaching and research interests in industrial relations, employment relations, employment policy and labor market analysis, work and employment, or other areas where organizations, unions, and workplace institutions are a major research interest. This is a full-time tenure-track position that combines research with teaching in the School’s master’s and PhD programs in human resources and employment relations. The School is a multi-disciplinary academic unit that concentrates on research and teaching in the HR-ER fields. For more information, please see our website at


  • Conduct original, high quality scholarly research for publication in leading academic journals
  • Teach in the School’s master’s and PhD programs
  • Participate on School-wide service committees


Applicants must have a Ph.D. in an appropriate social science discipline or equivalent degree in a professional area of study (e.g., JD); ABDs who demonstrate a strong potential for conducting exemplary research and teaching and anticipate Ph.D. completion no later than August 2021 will also be considered. Candidates for the Soderstrom professorship should have a record of research excellence in top refereed journals and teaching commensurate with the rank of full professor. 


For Soderstrom professorship candidates only, preference will be given to candidates who have engaged workers and workers’ organizations through scholarship, teaching, and service, as well as those who have a body of work on workers in union settings.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with experience and rank

APPOINTMENT STATUS: Regular, 100% time, tenure-track faculty appointment (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor)

PROPOSED STARTING DATE: Proposed starting date is August 16, 2021
