Position Summary

The Anders Sandrew Professor in Digital Art History will:

• Play an important role in the Department of Art History and the Anders Sandrew Institute for Culture and Creativity (ASIC&C)

• Apply and critically assess digital methods within art history

• Conduct research in areas such as digital tools for visualization, documentation, analysis, classification of artworks, computer vision, AI in art-historical interpretation, visual forensics, generative imagery, and digitization in cultural heritage

Duties

The position includes:

• Developing and conducting research and education within art history, focusing on digital art history

• Planning and leading research projects

• Conducting own research and actively seeking research funding for self and colleagues, including PhD students

• Teaching at various levels and collaborating with external parties, nationally and internationally

• Communication, dissemination, and representation of research

Time allocation:

• Research (including administration): ~50%

• Teaching, supervision, and course development: ~50%

Management duties:

• May include director of studies for doctoral education or head of department

• May include management assignments at other university levels

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold a PhD in art history, or equivalent competence

• Demonstrate pedagogical competence

• Have completed training in tertiary-level teaching of at least ten weeks, or obtain equivalent competence (can be done in the first two years if necessary)

• Have postgraduate supervisor training to supervise doctoral students

• Demonstrate ability to teach in Swedish or another Scandinavian language (must acquire within two years if not already proficient)

• Possess personal qualities such as flexibility, teamwork, and responsibility

Assessment Criteria

Evaluation will focus on:

Academic Competence

• Independent research quality, depth, and breadth

• Special weight on qualifications in digital art history

• Ability to obtain research funding

• Ability to plan, lead, and develop research groups

• Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and local community

Pedagogical Competence

• Educational qualifications, teaching experience, supervision, in-service training, or mentoring programs

• Ability to plan, lead, and develop teaching

• Linking teaching to research in art history

• Interactions with tertiary education stakeholders within and outside the university

Leadership and Administrative Skills

• Experience in leading departmental environments

• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage resources effectively

• Ability to motivate and coordinate groups, handle conflicts, and create job satisfaction

• Entrepreneurship and structured work in line with goals and quality expectations

Collaborative Competence

• Ability to organize and carry out projects in collaboration with local community

• Skills in research dissemination and public engagement
