The University of Oxford’s Department of Education wishes to appoint a Professor of Education and Children’s Social Care from October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post will be associated with the Rees Centre for Research in Fostering and Education. The Centre was set up in 2012 with funding from the international children’s services provider, Core Assets and has since been awarded numerous research grants from prestigious funding bodies. The research centre has been built on a strong foundation of using and developing evidence-based methods to improve outcomes for looked after children worldwide. Its practice- and policy-oriented reviews and mixed methods research are extensively quoted in national and local government guidance and are implemented by practitioners across the country and internationally.


The University is seeking to appoint a scholar with an outstanding record of contributing to the intellectual research leadership of the field through their own programme of publications and research funding. The successful applicant will have an outstanding international reputation for academic leadership in education and children’s social care. He or she will contribute to the programmes of research and teaching currently underway in the department, particularly in the Rees Centre. The appointee will play a part in the intellectual research leadership of the department as a whole. The individual will lead a programme of research at national and international levels and will generate significant research income.
