Research Assistant II (holding the functional title of Project Assistant) in the Centre for Water Technology and Policy (Ref.: 500357) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability) 

The Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences, in close collaboration, has jointly established and operated the Centre for Water Technology and Policy to conduct cutting edge research in, and contribute to interdisciplinary teaching programmes on, water science, technology and policy in relation to broader urban sustainability goals. The Centre involved, as appropriate, other institutions, professional bodies and scholars in Hong Kong and internationally to pursue excellence in research and teaching on water technology-policy interface issues, and to reach out to the community to stimulate discussion on relevant research findings.  

The appointee will be involved in a multi-year interdisciplinary project that makes use of cutting edge Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to study residential water usage and water conservation policy in Hong Kong. The project is being undertaken by a team of researchers drawn from the Faculties of Social Sciences and Engineering.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.  They should be familiar with embedded systems and software development life-cycle. Prior experiences in hardware prototyping and low-power wide-area network would be an advantage. The appointee will assist in design, implementation, validation and deployment of a smart water metering system for collecting and analyzing domestic water usage data in Hong Kong.
