Work­ing field:

Par­ti­cip­a­tion in a crim­in­o­lo­gical research pro­ject on "crim­inal careers" in the con­text of large fam­ily struc­tures. The pro­ject, which is fun­ded by the Ger­man Fed­eral Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Research (BMBF), com­par­at­ively exam­ines bio­graph­ical devel­op­ments of crim­inal and non-crim­inal mem­bers of large fam­ily struc­tures on the basis of inter­views and file ana­lyses. The aim is to identify the con­di­tions for enter­ing, stay­ing and exit­ing crim­inal careers. An essen­tial part of the research is the exam­in­a­tion of inter­ac­tion pro­cesses between per­pet­rat­ors, their social envir­on­ments and the reac­tions of soci­ety and the state. In the pro­ject, qual­it­at­ive meth­ods (nar­rat­ive inter­views, bio­graph­ical ana­lysis, prob­lem-centred inter­views) as well as quant­it­at­ive research meth­ods will be applied. The tasks of the sci­entific employee include the con­duc­tion of field research and case file ana­lyses, the qual­it­at­ive and quant­it­at­ive data ana­lysis, the instruc­tion of stu­dent assist­ants and the present­a­tion and pub­lic­a­tion of (interim) res­ults.


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Dip­lom, Mas­ter or equi­val­ent) in crim­in­o­logy, soci­ology, psy­cho­logy or edu­ca­tional sci­ence
  • sev­eral years of research exper­i­ence, if pos­sible in the field of secur­ity research and crim­in­o­logy
  • proven prac­tical exper­i­ence in work­ing with qual­it­at­ive-recon­struct­ive and/or stand­ard­ised meth­ods
  • know­ledge of the social fields to be researched, such as rap­per or boun­cer scenes
  • abil­ity to work in a team, pro­ject-ori­ented work atti­tude and a pro­nounced high degree of inter­cul­tural and social skills
  • will­ing­ness to travel fre­quently on busi­ness
  • busi­ness flu­ent in Ger­man
  • good Eng­lish skills are desir­able
  • know­ledge of Arabic would be an advant­age
