RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (POSTDOC)Environmental and climate economics



The  position in  accordance  with  Section28  subsection2of  the  Hamburg higher  education  act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 1st September 2019.


This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section2 of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years. Thecontract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section28subsection2 HmbHG. The position is full-time and comprises 39 hours per week (40 for civil servants).




Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associ-ates  may  also  pursue  independent research  and  further academic  qualifications  as  well  as ac-quire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. There-fore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made availablefor the associate’s own aca-demic work.


Specific Duties:


Research in the area of environmental and climate economics, in  particular on one or more of the  following  topics:  emission  trading,  energy  transition,  political  economy  of  environmental and climate policy or intrinsic motivation for environmental protection. The post also includes the obligation to teach 5 hrs. a week during term time within the undergraduate and graduate programmes of the Department of Socioeconomics as well as services related to teaching and research within the department.




A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.Profound knowledge of economic theory and/or quantitative empirical methods including economic experiments.


Universität Hamburg has been certified.audit familiengerechte hochschuleInterest   to   do   research in   environmental   or   climate   economic   and   ability   to   publish   in international  peer-reviewed  journals.  Good  comand  of  the  English language  and  the  ability  to work  in  teams  as  well  as  independently  is  required.  The  ability  to  teach  in  German  or  the willingness to acquire it is desirable
