The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) is one of the most renowned and largest universities in Germany.

The Department of Communication Studies, with a focus on journalism research, is generally dedicated to the scientific understanding of journalism and news production, and in particular to the changes and challenges that journalists are currently facing. The chair team pursues an international and comparative perspective and relies on an interlocking of qualitative and quantitative research methods (including interviews, content analyzes, experiments and ethnographic analyzes). The focus of current research activities is on dealing with journalism cultures, war and celebrity coverage and journalistic working conditions.

The successful applicant will work in the project "Precarization in Journalism", which will be funded by the German Research Foundation for a period of three years. The project asks about the impact of precarious employment on journalists or about their work and the corresponding adaptation services. The study aims to answer these questions by means of a standardized survey of 600 journalists as well as interviews with a total of 50 media professionals in Germany. Beyond the project, there is extensive scope for developing one's own scientific questions in the field of journalism research.

The tasks include the further development of the conceptual approach, the development of research instruments, the coordination of field research, the presentation of research results, the organization of a workshop and participation in project management.

For our team of professors, we are looking for a staff member with a high level of motivation and enthusiasm, with the ability to work independently and with enthusiasm for science in general and journalism research in particular. The successful candidate, as a member of a dynamic team, will have extensive opportunities to participate in international scientific activities.

The requirements include, in addition to the general labor law prerequisites, an excellent university degree in communication science, journalism or a related field as well as very good knowledge and experience in the field of empirical social research methods. Advantageous are practical experiences in carrying out surveys. In addition, application-oriented EDP and Internet skills as well as very good knowledge of the English language are expected.

Your workplace is centrally located in Munich and is very easy to reach by public transport. We offer you an interesting and responsible job with good training and development opportunities. Handicapped candidates are preferred with otherwise substantially equal suitability. The application of women is welcomed.
