    £27025 to £39609 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30395 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance


Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the University’s Rights Lab, which is delivering research to help end modern slavery, the successful candidate will deliver research, stakeholder engagement and impact. The role-holder’s work will focus on research on survivor voices and perspectives. The team is working to place survivors' voices at the heart of antislavery, employ survivors' ideas to develop more effective strategies against slavery, and help create a survivor-informed global antislavery movement. The role-holder will have strong experience of qualitative research methods and the role will involve gathering, coding and analysing narratives, drafting funding bids and contributing to research projects and outputs.


Working closely with Dr. Andrea Nicholson, the role-holder will help to coordinate relationships with internal and external research partners and stakeholders, support the development of research publications, develop and deliver knowledge exchange towards impact, develop funding applications in support of this research programme, contribute to the writing of policy and research outputs for various audiences, and collaborate with other Rights Lab teams and projects to integrate survivor perspectives. The person appointed will also have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.


Working closely with NGOs and government departments, the work will include preparatory research, country analysis, securing narrative introductions and permissions, gathering and transcribing survivor testimonies, and the coding, archiving and analysis of testimonies using a range of qualitative methodologies as appropriate to the project aims and research questions. The work is likely to include working with NGOs and interviewing survivors in the UK to explore their interactions with UK services and their support needs to explore risks, vulnerability, protection and the availability of support; coding, analysing, and co-production of reports with Indian and Ethiopian survivor narratives concerning the long-term challenges of reintegration using grounded theory; supporting research on male and trans sexual exploitation, rights frameworks, and sex work models in several countries; sourcing resources on survivor narratives and other survivor data developed by NGOs and other organisations; supporting other survivor projects that emerge during the year as appropriate.


The role is available as a fixed-term post for one year from 1 August 2019. This is a full time position, however is open to part time, minimum 29h per week. Job share arrangements may be considered.
