Senior Lecturer in Gender Studies

The University of Jyväskylä, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy is currently seeking to recruit

a Senior Lecturer in Gender Studies, for the period of 1.1.2023 – 31.7.2027.

The position will be located in Jyväskylä, Finland.

Tasks and qualifications

The Senior Lecturer is expected to teach, supervise, and do research relevant for gender studies in the fields of social and political science. The candidate is required to have a relevant doctoral degree, evidence of academic research work, the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations.

The Senior Lecturer is expected to conduct high quality research that supports the research of the Department in its focus areas. In addition, strong international networks and the ability to acquire external research funding are considered as merits.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to the Finnish law, a non-native lecturer/research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. In this position, teaching is conducted in Finnish and English. The selected person is expected to have a good command of English  and previous experience of teaching in English is considered as a merit.

The Senior Lecturer’s salary is situated on the job demands levels 5–7 according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. The annual salary range will be approximately 39.800-64.500 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of the employment.

  3. Research statement, i.e. short (2–3 pages) explanation of the applicant’s research activities, merits in scientific work and supervision of research and its connection to the department’s core research areas,
  4. A numbered list of all scientific and other publications according to the guidelines of the Academy of Finland,
  5. A maximum of five publications, which must be numbered according to the list of publications.
