Senior Lecturer in Business Administration with Specialisation in Logistics

With its more than 3,700 full-time students, 470 employees, 160 international partner universities and four departments, the School of Business, Economics and Law has unique breadth. The School’s close collaborations with the business sector and the public sector are also unique. The School of Business, Economics and Law holds EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accreditations.

The Department of Business Administration is the largest department at the School of Business, Economics and Law, and conducts extensive research and is responsible for education programmes at first-cycle and second-cycle levels, as well as third-cycle education in the subject areas of Business Administration and Economic Geography. The Department has 150 employees and is divided into four sections: Industrial and Financial Management & Logistics (IFEL), Management & Organisation, Marketing, and Accounting. The Department also has an administrative unit.

The advertised position as senior lecturer is hosted by the Industrial and Financial Management & Logistics section.

 

Subject area 

Business administration with specialization in logistics

Subject area description 

Logistics and freight transport are central functions in many organisations today. It is essential to develop efficient freight transport systems and at the same time strive towards a sustainable transport system. This requires a thorough understanding of the needs, demands and operating procedures of the logistics and transport industry. A close cooperation with industrial and societal actors is necessary to solve these issues.

Duties 

The person hired for the position is expected to carry out research and teach in the area of logistics and freight transport and help strengthen our research and education concerning the role of transport and logistics for a successful transition to a sustainable society. Research is a core activity in the group with a large share of externally funded projects, where the person hired is expected to participate both in projects and applications. The required work tasks also include academic leadership and coordination of courses in the areas of logistics and freight transport.

The applicant is expected to work across disciplins and collaborate with researchers from other academic fields and research organisations. Teaching may be carried out in Swedish in the bachelor programme Logistikprogrammet, in English in the master programme Logistics and Transport Management, and in other relevant courses. Teaching will also include thesis supervision.

Eligibility 

Qualification for the employment of teaching staff is set forth in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, Appointments Procedure for Teachers at the University of Gothenburg (GU 2022/2359) and the Appointment Regulations for Teaching Staff at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg (GU 2023/397).

To be eligible for employment as Senior Lecturer in business administration with specialization in logistics, an applicant must have a completed Ph.D. with a focus on logistics, or possess the equivalent scientific qualifications, at the time of application. Fluency in English in speech as well as in writing is a requirement. Documented experience of high-quality teaching in the area of logistics as well as formal training in university teaching, or equivalent competence, are also required to be eligible for employment. To be eligible for appointment as a senior lecturer the applicant is required to have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctorate 0that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve. 

Assessment criteria 

According to the Appointment Regulations for Teaching Staff at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg (GU 2023/397), the applicant shall be selected for the position who, based on an overall assessment of competence and potential for future development, is judged to have the best qualities for performing the duties included in the appointment. In the assessment, equal focus shall be placed on proven scientific and pedagogical skills. Particular emphasis shall be placed on the potential for future high-quality research.

For the advertised position, we require a person with

  • documented research and teaching experience in the field of Business administration, (or equivalent), with a focus on logistics and freight transport,
  • the ability to administrate and carry out research and teaching activities, and
  • the ability to establish and develop collaborations within research and education.

Qualifications that are highly valued for this position include

  • proficiency in a Scandinavian language, to enable teaching in Logistikprogrammet, and
  • documented experience with case studies and interviews in close collaboration with industry and authorities.

In addition, the evaluation will consider the applicant’s ability to collaborate internally and externally to conduct the above-described work tasks and the applicant’s ability to communicate about research nationally and internationally.

Employment 

This is a permanent, full-time position located to the Department of Business Administration at the School of Business, Economics and Law. Starting date per agreement.
