# Job description
The Dickson Poon School of Law is seeking to appoint a senior lecturer in law who will contribute to the teaching, research and other academic and professional activities of the Centre for Construction Law.
The successful candidate’s principal teaching contribution will be in construction law in our postgraduate programmes.
The successful candidate/s will be actively involved in the administration and academic life of a world leading law school and will carry out administrative duties at the Centre and at the Dickson Poon School of Law.
The successful candidate will be responsible to the Centre Director and to the Executive Dean.
The Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London is one of the oldest law schools in England and recognised globally as one of the best law schools in the world. The Dickson Poon School of Law is housed in the East Wing of Somerset House, a Grade One listed building, on the College’s Strand Campus, no more than a few minutes’ walk from the Royal Courts of Justice and Inns of Court. We are located midway between Westminster and the City of London, enabling us to have excellent contacts with practitioners and policy-makers. There is a strong tradition of engagement with the legal profession.
This post will be offered on an indefinite contract (subject to a probation period).
This is a full-time post.# Key responsibilities
- To take a key role in planning, organising and delivering the teaching and research programmes of the Centre. - To undertake high quality research relevant to the UK and international construction sector, including a leading role in the Centre’s ground-breaking research into new ways to improve economic, social and environmental value and efficiency in the construction sector through innovative legal relationships and processes, including collaborative procurement and contracting systems, information management and risk management. - To build and sustain networks of academics, clients, consultants, contractors and other practitioners in order to optimise the depth, reach and impact of the Centre’s research activities and outputs. - To act as module coordinator for one or more Master’s courses and to guide a multi-disciplinary and international cohort of Master’s level students through advanced construction law studies that include UK and international procurement procedures and pathways, frameworks, alliances and public private partnerships, digital technology and intellectual property, risk management, insolvency, insurance, bonds, other securities and health and safety, leading them into a clear understanding of relevant processes, relationships, rights and liabilities. - To be prepared to lead the development of new, innovative programmes in construction law and procurement, including online courses. - To show strong commitment in all aspects of teaching and research to the exploration of how multiple specialist fields of private and public law apply and evolve in the construction sector. - To carry out administrative duties as requested by the Head of School or Centre Director. - Contribute to the holistic development of our students through pastoral care and engagement in student experience activities, including by acting as a personal tutor. - Participate in student development processes, including student progress monitoring, education assessment and examination. - Be available for duties during assessment and marking periods. - Be responsible for marking formative and summative work and to provide timely and effective feedback working closely with module leaders and programme directors and the professional services programme and assessments team. - Accept academic administrative responsibilities, such as in School education or research roles, and in School or University governance structures, as commensurate with the candidate’s seniority and experience. - Engage in professional development to further the post-holder’s career.

# Skills, knowledge, and experience
**Essential criteria**
1. Completed or soon to be completed (i.e. within 3 months of submission) PhD, DPhil, JSD in Law
2. Demonstrable ability to publish research in Construction Law
3. Track record of excellent teaching and knowledge of Construction Law
4. A commitment to, and interest in, Construction Law as the primary focus of the candidate’s teaching and research
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
6. Competence with electronic learning platforms and other IT skills
7. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and to contribute to the School’s culture of collaboration
8. Ability to work to and meet deadlines
9. Ability to work both on one’s own initiative and as part of a team and a track record of collegiality
**Desirable criteria**
1. The potential to attract funding for research or for the candidate’s research agenda to have impact
2. Experience of successfully undertaking academic administrative roles
