Subject areaPublic administration Subject area descriptionThe School of Public Administration provides education, research and collaboration within the field of public administration. It offers programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as commissioned courses and doctoral studies. Programmes in the multi-disciplinary subject of public administration focus on politics, democracy and administration; public finance; organisation, management and society, as well as legal perspectives on public administration. The School of Public Administration is also responsible for courses in the preschool- and head teacher training programmes. The research focuses on public administration, its function and social context. Overall research fields currently include municipal politics and democracy, scrutiny of public policies and activities, Public Management, public law, governance of schools and preschools as well as sustainable urban development. Research and teaching within the field of management accounting includes the study of implementation and use of management accounting models, cost management, financial- and performance-oriented evaluation, accountability, accounting roles and functions, as well as the interaction between finances and operations. EligibilityCandidates eligible for employment as senior lecturer in public administration will have completed a doctoral exam in public administration, or in another discipline relevant to the position, and also have proven teaching expertise. Eligibility for employment as a teacher is set out in chapter 4, sections 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, as well as in the Faculty of Social Science's application of the Employment Arrangements for employing teaching staff at the University of Gothenburg. AssessmentWhen selecting qualified applicants, the applicant will be selected who, after an overall assessment of expertise and development potential, is deemed to have the best prerequisites to execute and develop the job assignments described above. Equal weight will be given in the assessment to scientific and pedagogical expertise. When assessing scientific expertise, particular importance will be placed on research qualifications. Eligible candidates will have documented research qualifications within public administration, or alternatively business administration (or equivalent). Research focusing on management accounting is of particular benefit, with research focused on the public sector a further benefit. All high-quality academic publications are beneficial, both publications in Swedish and in international journals. It is also a merit to have obtained external research funding. When assessing pedagogical expertise, particular importance will be placed on teaching qualifications. Eligible candidates will have documented teaching qualifications within public administration, or alternatively business administration (or equivalent). Teaching focused on management accounting is of particular benefit, with teaching focused on the public sector a further benefit. Experience of teaching calculation and quantitative methods is a benefit, but not a requirement. Experience and expertise within academic teaching and supervision must be well documented and verified. Production of teaching materials, development of courses or teaching elements is a merit. Participation in commissioned courses as well as implementation of qualified auditing assignments within public activities is particularly beneficial in relation to the University’s collaboration remit with the surrounding community. Networking activities aimed at public administrations and documented capacity to communicate information about research is a merit. Degree of administrative proficiency as well as ability to develop and lead activities and staff at the School are also taken into account. In addition, personal suitability, along with intention and prerequisites to actively participate in the School of Public Administration's academic environment in Gothenburg, will be given particular consideration. Applicants should also have completed a course in teaching and learning in higher education of 15 higher education credits, or alternatively completed it within one year of being employed.
