Duties and responsibilities
  • High-level RDC activities, incl. taking care that necessary resources are available for it, and taking responsibility for the performance of RDC activities.
  • Internationally recognised research in five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of two doctoral theses, thematically focusing on folkloristics and contemporary folklore in Estonia and in Central and Eastern Europe (incl. contributing to the project “Performative negotiations of belonging in contemporary Estonia” (PSG48)).
  • Participation in Estonian and international research organisations and associations, participation in collaboration networks, working as a reviewer, organising international research conferences. 
  • Participation in teaching of graduate students in Estonian and in English and supervision of graduate students.
  • Popularisation of the field.
  • Development of skills necessary for RDC activities, and professional development.
  • Preferred thematic foci: political folklore, folk humour, ethnic identities and relations in contemporary Estonia, informal language learning, refugee studies, ethnographic approaches.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • Research and teaching profile which is consistent with the announced position.
  • Success in applying for research funding and performing RDC contracts in the last five years.
  • Internationally recognised professional research, the volume of which so far is equivalent to that of at least two doctoral theses, incl. internationally recognised research in the last five years at least in the volume equivalent to that of one doctoral thesis.
  • Active international collaboration, incl. participation in the work of professional societies, in international RDC projects, work as a reviewer, organising international research conferences.
  • Experience in supervising graduate students.
  • Experience in the application and popularisation of theoretical knowledge.

Required language skills
Excellent command of Estonian, Russian, and English.

Starting at


The salary of the Senior Research Fellow will be determined by negotiation. Remuneration based on UT salary rules.
