The Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin, in affiliation with the newly launched Center for Entertainment and Media Industries in the Moody College of Communication, seeks applicants for a Lecturer in Media Studies with expertise in digital/interactive media industries. Ph.D. in Media Studies or closely related field by the time of appointment is required. This is a one-year assignment for the 2020-2021 academic year. The nine-month rate for this assignment is $42,000 and pays from 9/1/2020 through 5/31/2021. Teaching begins with the start of classes in August. University benefits are provided with the position from 9/1/2020 through 8/31/2021.

We seek applicants able to teach a 3/3 teaching load that includes upper-division courses in areas related to the gaming, social media, streaming media, podcasting, and/or music industries. In addition to teaching two courses in these topic areas each semester, candidates will be asked to work with the Center for Entertainment and Media Industries to supervise one internship/experiential learning course each semester. This internship/experiential learning course includes one hour of instruction per week along with modest associated administrative responsibilities.

About the Department: The Department of Radio-Television-Film offers a broad range of courses in media studies, production, and screenwriting leading to the B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. RTF is one of few departments or schools in the country that is consistently ranked as a top ten program in both media studies as well as production and screenwriting. RTF also has the benefit of innovative collaborations across the Moody College of Communication, one of the largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country.

Qualifications

Expertise in digital and interactive media industries. Ph.D. in Media Studies or closely related field by the time of appointment is required. A strong record of teaching at the university level is preferred.
