University Lecturer in Gender Studies
University of Cambridge
United Kingdom

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a one-year Temporary Lectureship in Gender Studies in the University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies, part of the Department of Politics and International Studies, from 15 September 2020. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a growing and thriving multi-disciplinary Centre in POLIS.

The post-holder should have researched, published and taught on gender topics, broadly understood to encompass a range of perspectives and approaches toward understanding gender in relation to the human subject.

The aim of the Centre is to increase our capacity for rigorous analysis of gender and sexuality and to promote awareness of their relevance in historic, economic, political, artistic, social, and scientific contexts. As such, we welcome inquiry from multiple, overlapping and intersectional perspectives. We aim to push across the boundaries of disciplines and identities to promote ambitious and groundbreaking work that is able to build on the strengths of research across the University of Cambridge, and to deeply engage with the complexities of studying gender in our world.

Applicants will be expected to have a strong background in gender related theory and methods. The post-holder will partake in all the Centre's functions including post-graduate teaching on the MPhil and PhD programmes in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies, undergraduate teaching for the HSPS Tripos (including for example the Part IIB paper 'Politics and Gender'), research, academic administration, academic events/public engagement and fundraising.

Candidates will need to show evidence of the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Good first degree and a doctorate in a relevant subject area (or clear evidence that completion of such a doctorate is imminent);
  • Evidence of ability to teach the required subject areas effectively, and at all relevant levels;
  • Evidence of ability to engage in internationally recognised high-level research, with publications and participation in scholarly activity commensurate with stage of career;
  • Ability to play an effective role in the life and work of the Centre
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
