The University of Cincinnati School of Social Work is searching for a full-time Visiting Instructor / Assistant Professor who will contribute to the department’s teaching and service missions. The ideal applicant will be an experienced educator with an established record of professional practice and service. This is a one-year, 12-month position for the 2019-2020 academic year with rank commensurate with credentials and experience.




Position Responsibilities: The visiting instructor / assistant professor is primarily responsible for teaching and service in the undergraduate and graduate social work programs. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to: course development/revision, primary instruction of didactic courses using traditional classroom modalities; advising and field liaison responsibilities. Service responsibilities may include participation in recruitment, retention, and admissions activities; program committee work; and other tasks as assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Head.




Minimum Qualifications:


    Master of Social Work degree (PhD in Social Work preferred)


    Two years post-MSW practice experience as a professional social worker.

    Three years of successful teaching /academic experience in social work.

    Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in direct practice.

    Ability to teach in at least two of the following areas: direct practice, mental health practice, social work theory, and research methodologies.

    Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Experience in mentoring students.

    Strong organizational skills.

    Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, problem solving, counseling, conflict management, and follow-through.

    Ability to work independently.

    Ability to take direction and coordinate work with colleagues, peers, and community partners.

    Ability to assist with tasks assigned by Program Director and Department Head.




Preferred Qualifications:


    Terminal doctoral degree (or significant progress towards completion with established completion target date) in social work.

    Licensed or eligible for licensure as an independent social worker in the State of Ohio.

    Active in professional activities.
